This morning I was reminded of something so simple, and yet so profound: God is so good. So kind. So sweet. And we really do need to come and taste for ourselves.
“Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed, fortunate and prosperous is the one who takes refuge in Him.” – Psalm 34:8
Stay with me, because this is where it gets personal.
In verse 9, He says, “O fear the Lord, you His saints; for those who fear Him lack nothing.”
Lack nothing.
That is His thought toward us. That is His heart toward His children- not barely surviving, not hanging in there, not scraping through life. Lack Nothing.
And the key? Fear Him.
Now, if you’re anything like me, you read that and think, “Okay, Lord, thank You for this secret. But how do I fear You? What does that even mean? I thought I already did? Maybe I don’t. What does fearing You actually look like?”
Then came verse 11, and I almost laughed.
“Come, my child(ren), listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord.”
Amazing.
He’s basically saying that even the instruction He just gave is not for me to figure out by myself. “He will teach me.”
So I thought, all I have to do is come and listen?
And He says: that’s all I’ve ever asked – to come.
Because when you come to me,
I will teach you.
I will show you.
I will shape you.
I will lead you.
I will carry you.
It is no longer you striving to become something; it will be Christ living in you (Galatians 2:20).
And that’s when it hit me.
The love of God has never really had anything to do with what I’ve done or what I bring to the table. He simply loved me. He already set the table Himself.
Jesus finished the work. My part is to accept. To come.
“Here I am, Lord. I come. And I stay.”
So, for anyone who feels unsure, overwhelmed, or like you don’t know where to start: Come. That is all He asks. Anything more is oversyllabus – us giving ourselves extra work He never assigned.
He only says: come.
Because this God?
He is the policy-maker
He is the judge and jury,
He is your lawyer and advocate making your case,
He is your witness,
He is your Father rooting for you in the gallery and paying the legal fees,
He is your lover waiting with an embrace,
And He is your Lord.
What a relationship to have!!!
So stop trying. Just come.
And when Hebrews 4:16 says “let us come boldly to the throne of grace…”, it means a whole lot more, makes you know that He cares and loves us so much.
Isaiah 49:16 says “He has inscribed us on His palms”, and that is a testament that He can never forget us. I have held on to that promise ever since, and I know, for sure, that God is love and God is good. You just come to Him, and you will testify.
What a privilege we have!
